Functional Color

I love glazing.  Playing with color and the reactions of glaze to body is a lot of fun to me.   I approach color in an instinctual, practical observation approach and  I prefer the unexpected reactions of layered glazes.  I will use any kiln I can get my hands on, and use it with gusto!

Unfortunately, the detailed textures of my sculptures do not lend themselves to the playful qualities of glaze.  Too much glaze and you loose the hours of work you put into poking holes in a lacy sponge.  However, functional work, with the smooth surfaces and simple forms is a veritable jungle-gym for the glazing potter.  So here are my experiments with form and color.  The glaze work here becomes the foundation for the colors and glazes I use (or don't use) on my sculptures.
